JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — wjactv.com reported that Pennsylvania has a deadline of October to decide whether it will pay the $5.7 million cost to keep Amtrak service running.
A federal law passed in 2008 requires the state to pay for rail service routes less than 750 miles, which includes Amtrak's Pennsylvanian. At about 440 miles, the route runs from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg. Amtrak told the TV station that ridership on the Pennsylvanian was up 2.2% last year. For the full story, click here.
