D.C. Metro transit police cut theft numbers

Plain clothes officers used decoy bicycles and electronic devices to make immediate arrests as thefts and robberies occurred on the transit system. In November, officers recorded 47 arrests for snatch robberies and bicycle theft and made separate arrests for assault, drug and weapons possession.

APTA: 3rd quarter ridership up 2%

It is the first time in three years that ridership has increased for all three quarters, according to APTA. The ridership increase is attributed to a number of factors including high gas prices, improved real time passenger information and a recovering economy.

N.Y. MTA bolsters winter weather preparation

After unprecedented conditions during the December 26, 2010 blizzard crippled the system, NYCT immediately began a review and made the changes required to strengthen storm preparedness. Changes include the appointment of an Emergency Coordinator to facilitate storm response coordination and the establishment of situation rooms to manage storm response activities.

Amtrak unveils revamped Kansas station

The more than $1.5 million in improvements include a 500-foot passenger boarding platform, access to parking with designations compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and new exterior lighting designed to improve safety.
