Rhode Island opens airport multi-modal facility

The $267 million InterLink provides for the area's first-ever connection between local bus service and the airport, rail service and rental cars. The FHWA provided $124.6 million in direct funding and the U.S. DOT provided a $42 million loan from its TIFIA program.

NJ Transit launches bus schedule text system

Based on a system of bus stop ID numbers — unique five-digit numbers the agency has assigned to each of its bus stops — My Bus enables customers who have cell phones with SMS (text messaging) capabilities to receive bus schedule information for a specific stop directly to their phones.

Chicago continues 5000-series railcar testing

Being tested to determine how they perform when operating in the conditions that CTA's rail fleet is subjected to throughout the year. The prototypes must successfully complete testing on all eight rail lines before CTA will authorize the delivery of the remaining 396 rail cars.

Dallas to debut level boarding at all rail stations

This transition follows two-and-a-half years of construction and station closures. Special use platforms or "high blocks," which have served persons with disabilities and mobility challenges since the rail system opened in 1996, also will be removed from service, as these passengers begin utilizing the low-floor center doors in each train's center section.

Alstom, Bombardier consortium to supply STM

The contract is estimated at approximately $1.2 billion. Bombardier's share is estimated at $725 million and Alstom's share is estimated at $482 million. The contract will enter into force, and the final price fixed using the applicable exchange rate, when the usual steps of funding approval will be completed.

FHWA reviews Conn. Amtrak bridge project

The project is reconstructing and lengthening the existing Amtrak Bridge, so that more highway lanes and sidewalks can be added to U.S. Route 1, which runs beneath the rail bridge in Branford. The project will help meet the demand of heavy traffic.

Over the past year, HUD, DOT and EPA have worked together to promote better outcomes for communities and more effective federal investments through better targeted federal resources, removal of existing federal regulatory and policy barriers to smart and sustainable development, as well as aligned agency priorities that will ensure lasting collaboration.

PB wins EIS contract for Detroit light rail project

The approximately $400 million project is for a proposed 9.3-mile light rail transit system expected to be in operation by 2016. The project is being structured as an innovative public-private partnership, with a private group, M1 Rail, providing funding and participating in the development of a portion of the system.
