FTA awards TriMet $2.4M for streetcar research

At present there is no domestic manufacturer of streetcar propulsion systems. The propulsion system represents about 20 percent of the total cost of a vehicle. The FTA will fund 80 percent of the $3-million project, with a local match of $600,000.

NJ Transit approves adjusted fare, service plan

Fare plans will take effect May 1, 2010. Under the new plan there will be a modest 10-percent increase for local bus and light rail customers. Current Access Link services for people with disabilities who are unable to use regular bus service, and selected bus routes in eight counties will be maintained.

T4 America launches Equity Caucus

Will advocate for new and innovative policies to expand transportation access in disadvantaged areas and ensure that low-income, African-American and Hispanic workers have access to transportation jobs supported by federal investment.

With the upcoming 2015 deadline for installation, positive train control systems are a main focus for rail operators. Train car technologies that reduce passenger injuries in a collision and other security systems are also in the works.
