S. Carolina St. transportation building sits empty

COLUMBIA, S.C. — While construction was completed nine months ago on the Clyburn Transit Center at South Carolina State University, the 8,500-square-foot building sits empty and unused, with the Transportation Center receiving no federal or state funds since 2010, according to The Times and Democrat.

The $4.8 million center — the first phase in the James E. Clyburn Transportation Center — was completed last December after 13 years of delays. It has space for automotive research and education, a chiller plant, underground fuel tanks, three automotive research bays, and a fourth bay for cleaning and preparing vehicles.
