Boston U. students must now show IDs to ride bus

BOSTON — The Daily Free Press reported that Boston University’s (BU) Parking and Transportation Services department will start requiring IDs to board its BUS shuttle buses, which are meant only for university students and faculty.

The department made the move in response to concerns from students and faculty about non-university affiliated people riding the shuttles.
 
William Hajjar, director of Parking and Transportation Services, told the paper that it will start enforcing the students- and faculty-only rule because  the service cost is substantial and the department has a responsibility to ensure that as much of the BU community as possible has access to the service.

The program currently includes two 22-foot, 22-seat transit buses equipped with nickel-cadmium batteries to meet the power demand of the buses and hydrogen-fueled proton exchange membrane fuel cells to maintain the state-of-charge of the batteries.
