PLATTVILLE, Wis. — Platteville's new transit system, created by merging the city's taxi service and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's bus service, will open for business in about a month, THOnline.com reported.
The bus routes were established in late March. The fare to ride the Platteville Transit System is $1 per ride and $25 for a monthly pass, with college students riding for free, according to the report.
This year, the city will pay $40,839 and UW-P $75,000 for the service. In future years, the city will cover 21.4% of costs and the university 78.6%, THOnline reported.
The project, which began in 2011, was prompted by unprecedented campus growth resulting in heightened demand for parking in Platteville.
