Longtime U. of Minn. transportation dir. to retire

During his 23 years as head of parking and transportation services, Bob W. Baker expanded parking space on campus by 50%, started the U-Pass program and advocated for the university’s interests in the Central Corridor light rail line’s intersection of campus.

U. of Utah electric shuttle bus plans advancing

Will begin running a prototype of the bus from campus housing to its main campus in the fall. Officials are also planning an extension of the shuttle’s route. Construction on that project is set to begin in late 2014.

Mich. university students opting for buses over parking

Fewer are buying campus parking permits, bringing the number of purchases down by 23%. Data show that parking permit sales have fallen steadily since the 2005-06 academic year, despite growing enrollment.

UC Riverside unveils new shuttle service

Will provide students with one-way transportation to homes located within three-mile radius of the campus. Creating the service was the top recommendation from the University Task Force on Safety, which was formed to address a rash of robberies and assaults around campus.

Veolia wins Texas St. U. shuttle contract

The service, the Bobcat Tram, makes nearly 3.5 million passenger trips annually and is funded predominantly from student bus fees.

During summer break, Iowa State U. transit to enhance facilities

Will implement its bus stop improvement plan and begin construction work to expand its headquarters.
