California's proposed high-speed rail system will cost billions more to build than originally anticipated, according to a newly released environmental report. Other highlights of the report included engineers belief that building the line is expected to cost $3.8 billion to $6.9 billion between Merced and Fresno, depending on which route is chosen, marking the first time the California High-Speed Rail Authority has produced a breakdown of costs by segment.
