German operator Deutsche Bahn (DB) selected Alstom to equip 121 trains of its "ICE" fleet with its signaling European Rail Traffic Management System-based (ERTMS) train control solution — Atlas.

The contract is worth approximately $78 million. The trains to be equipped are 71 ICE-T tilting trains and 50 ICE3 trains, which are operated in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The first 17 newly equipped trains are set to start service December 2012 in Vienna-St.Polten and Unterinntal in Austria. From December 2015, they will operate on the recently built German line linking Halle (sale)/Leipzig to Erfurt and from December 2016, on the Swiss network.
