The Metropolitan Council, which serves Minneapolis-St. Paul area, recently approved a five-year contract renewal with First Transit to continue operating fixed-route services as part of the regional transit system.

The contract is effective October 1, continuing a 22-year relationship between First Transit and the Metropolitan Council, where it operates 25 vehicles on express and local fixed-routes, employs 41 employees and transports more than 1.15 million passengers annually.

First Transit also announced that it was awarded a 10-month fixed-route and paratransit contract with the Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization in Yuma, Ariz.

First Transit operates and manages 41 First Transit employees operating 30 vehicles, which transport more than 360,000 passengers annually.

Management of the transit service began September 1.
