Parvus Corp., a U.S. subsidiary of the Eurotech Group, announced that Kawasaki Rail Car Inc. has ordered 150 DuraMAR 1000 routers for installation on new M-8 passenger railcars for the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Metro-North Railroad (MNR).
These ruggedized Cisco 3200-based mobile routers are specified into the railcars’ next-generation Internet Protocol (IP)-based computer network infrastructure. The order is valued at approximately $1.6 Million. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2009.
Kawasaki will fit the new M-8 railcars with a version of the Parvus DuraMAR 1000 IP router especially configured for rolling stock installations, enabling advanced on-board routing functionality, including Quality of Service (QoS), VLAN, remote diagnostics (SNMP), and mobile IP for remote access management.
