Allison Transmission Division of General Motors will cease manufacturing hydraulic transmissions and will exclusively produce high-performance, electronically controlled products for medium-duty truck applications. Among the transmissions that Allison will phase out are the MT 643 and MT 653, which can still be ordered through June 28, 2002, and the AT 545, which can be ordered through Jan. 31, 2003. This phase out completes Allison's transition to electronically controlled transmissions, which includes the 1000/2000/2400 Series and the 3000 Series.
