WASHINGTON, D.C. — The preliminary 2020 budget released by the Trump Administration calls for cuts in funding for new transit projects by 39% and a 23% slash in funding for Amtrak, while raising highway spending, StreetsBlogUSA reports.
The proposed budget cuts funding from $2.5 billion to $1.5 billion for the Capital Improvement Grants program, which could have an impact on projects like Phoenix’s South Central Light Rail project or Indianapolis’s Red Line BRT system, and slashes Amtrak funding by about $455 million.
The budget proposal also includes a 31% cut for the Environmental Protection Agency. For the full story, click here.
