PARIS — A French company, Akka Technologies, is promoting a new aircraft design, with detachable wings to hasten turnover at airports and make boarding easier and closer to passengers’ homes, according to Bloomberg.
With the company's futuristic concept, passengers would board a train-like tube at a neighborhood station and have their retinas scanned for security during the ride to the airport. Wings would then be attached to the pod for take-off, the report said.
The Link & Fly plane, as it is called, is designed for short-range flights and would carry 162 passengers, with the option to remove seats to carry freight instead.
