Alstom delivered Sydney’s first metro trains as part of the Sydney Metro Northwest project — which is Stage 1 of Sydney Metro, Australia’s biggest public transport project.

Sydney is the first city in Australia to implement a fully-automated metro system, providing a world-class, modern transport solution to meet the needs of the growing city when services start in the first half of 2019. The first three of 22 six-car trains have been delivered to the Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill and are being tested over the coming months.

The $6.4 billion Sydney Metro Northwest project is Stage 1 of the Sydney Metro project. The new system will provide a high level of service, with a train every four minutes in the peak in each direction.

Services will extend into the city in 2024 and will have an ultimate capacity of a metro train every two minutes in each direction under the city.
