Momentum’s inductive-charging systems are fully automatic and remove the need for manual plug-in charging operations.

Momentum Dynamics produces the world’s most advanced inductive charging systems for battery-electric buses. The company produces systems that range from 50 kilowatts to 300 kilowatts that can be adapted to any bus model.

Momentum’s inductive-charging systems are fully automatic and remove the need for manual plug-in charging operations. Inductive charging can be operated under all weather conditions and can transmit electrical energy safely through puddles of water, ice, and snow. Power transfer efficiency is comparable to the best plug-in charging systems.

At this year’s APTA EXPO and Annual Meeting, Momentum is announcing the expansion of its system of wireless chargers to include floor-mounted in-depot chargers. The new system offers an affordable alternative to cable plug-in charging for garage-based charging operations. Once a bus is equipped with a Momentum® wireless charging receiver, it can be charged by both the in-depot and on-route charging systems. This gives maximum flexibility to route planners and fleet managers to deploy chargers in the most efficient combination. Momentum’s in-depot chargers are floor-mounted pads that do not require concrete floor cutting and deep excavation, making them the ideal choice to retrofit existing bus garages.

Wireless in-depot charging eliminates all on-ground and overhead cables and completely automates the charging process. All charging operations are automatically logged and remotely monitored. Intelligent charging operations are managed by the Momentum® system allowing for dynamic load management and demand-response programming.

Electric buses can outperform fossil fuel buses by reducing emissions to zero while reducing fuel and maintenance costs. Inductive charging makes it possible to achieve these savings by ensuring that any electric bus can operate on any route without range limitations, and through all seasons and temperature ranges.

On-route charging extends driving range while keeping battery health and state of charge within an optimal range — this is the key to battery lifetime extension. Wireless in-depot charging fully automates the overnight refueling of electric buses and removes the need for plug-in charging equipment and cables.
