BURLINGTON, Vt. — AllEarth Rail has announced its purchase of 12 vintage rail coaches to be used in launching a commuter rail service in northwestern Vermont, reported Vermont Business Magazine.

The company bought the equipment, built in the 1950s by the now-defunct Budd Co., and related parts and inventory from Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) for $4 million, reported Vermont Business Magazine.

DART decided to dispose of the surplus rail diesel cars due to the expense of maintaining and finding parts for the equipment and the fact that they would require a  significant overhaul to meet positive train control compliance, according to the report.
