FTA confirmed to speak on new bus testing rule, more at BusCon 2016

The Federal Transit Administration confirmed that Marcel Belanger and Steve Brady will join APTA’s Jeff Hiott, director, operations & standards, to discuss the FTA’s new Bus Safety Testing and Transit Asset Management Rules as part of BusCon 2016’s Transit Maintenance Forum taking place Sept. 20 to 21 in Indianapolis.

Both of the latest Notice of Proposed Rulemakings affect every transit agency. To be compliant with the State of Good Repair rule, your agency must develop and carry out a Transit Asset Management (TAM) plan that includes detailed information, policies, strategies and performance targets — and report on this annually to the FTA.

Meanwhile, the new Bus Safety Testing Rule will establish a set of minimum performance standards, a standardized scoring system, and a pass-fail threshold that will better inform local transit agencies as they evaluate and purchase buses for use in their communities.

The session will also include a Roundtable discussion, which will enable top maintenance officials to discuss these topics with the speakers and their peers.
