NORFOLK, Va. — In a departure from previous plans to pick the preferred route and move forward with just one environmental study, Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will study two potential light rail routes to Norfolk Naval Station under a new recommendation from the Federal Transit Agency, The Virginian-Pilot reports.
HRT CEO William Harrell presented the FTA's recommendations to a Norfolk City Council transportation subcommittee, with the subcommittee taking no action. HRT is asking the city manager for a letter of encouragement to proceed, which would lead to them issuing requests for proposals for two different consultants to complete independent studies.
