Following a 750-mile trip around Lancaster, Calif. in 24 hours in August, BYD recently drove one of its electric buses “under its own power” from Lancaster to Houston in preparation for APTA’s EXPO next week.

The vehicle travelled 1,500 miles in all and was charged along the way at 10 locations where BYD simply connected the vehicle into the AC power grid to charge up in two to three hours.

In August, the Antelope Valley Transit Authority tested a BYD bus for 24 hours, traveling 750 miles in all, while running full air-conditioning and carrying 5,250 lbs. of sand bags to simulate a full passenger load.

BYD Buses run entirely off of batteries, with NO transmissions, clutches, or an internal-combustion engine. This reduces the heat and friction losses making the BYD bus one the most efficient long-range bus available.

The company will showcase its electric vehicle in Booth #5437 at EXPO in Houston.
