N.Y. hits Lyft with cease and desist order

NEW YORK CITY — Ride-sharing startup Lyft was sent a cease-and-desist letter by New York's Department of Financial Services, according to a letter obtained by Crain’s New York Business.

On Friday 7 p.m., Lyft plans to launch its fleet of 500 vehicles in Brooklyn and Queens.

State officials accused the company of acting in bad faith by concealing plans to operate in the city and say Lyft has violated several insurance laws, including illegally acting as an insurance provider and soliciting New York drivers, the Epoch Times reported.
