Cubic Transportation Systems, designer and integrator of San Diego County’s regional Compass smart card system, won a $1.5 million contract to provide maintenance services for Compass partner North County Transit District’s (NCTD) electronic ticketing equipment for the Coaster commuter rail and Sprinter light rail.

The base contract is for three years with five option years, which would increase the overall contract to $4 million. Cubic will provide preventative and corrective maintenance for the ticketing machines, platform validators and ticket office terminals.

As the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and services supplier for other transit agency clients, Cubic brings both the expertise and experience of more than 40 years in the automated fare collection business for public transportation including services for other transit agencies with similar equipment, such as the Los Angeles Metro TAP system, San Francisco Clipper program and Transport for London’s Oyster system.

This extensive experience benefits NCTD and other customers with similar services provided by Cubic because of the immediate access to Cubic’s OEM engineering and manufacturing organizations and the expertise for additional support as needed. This includes a shared knowledge base across Cubic’s global operations for faster issue resolution.
