Via has partnered with the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) to launch UTA On-Demand, by Via — a smart, shared transportation solution that will operate in southern Salt Lake County and serve as a complement to existing public transit infrastructure.

The introduction of UTA On-Demand presents an opportunity for UTA and Via to extend access to affordable, convenient, and efficient public transportation to suburban areas of Salt Lake City including Bluffdale, Draper, Herriman, Riverton, and South Jordan. The project will run for one year and is intended to further enhance connectivity to UTA’s TRAX light rail and FrontRunner commuter lines, as well as to key business districts and important destinations in the community.

Using the Via app, riders will be able to hail a shuttle directly from their smartphone. Riders without a smartphone will be able to book by telephone. Via’s advanced algorithms will enable multiple riders to seamlessly share the vehicle. The technology will direct passengers to a nearby virtual bus stop, allowing for quick and efficient shared trips without lengthy detours, or inconvenient fixed routes and schedules.

The service will be available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will include wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Until the end of the year, all rides cost $1, with the flat fare rising to $2.50 per ride after the initial launch. Seniors and reduced fare riders have a 50% discount on all rides. Riders can pay using the Via app or show their UTA fare, like a UTA GoRide ticket, pass, or transfer when they board.
