TOLEDO, Ohio — Because of a lack of consensus among board members, a Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) proposal to place a sales-tax referendum on the November 6 ballot will probably not move forward, toledoBlade.com reported.
The agency is the last Ohio transit authority to use real-estate taxes for its local subsidy. A consultant in 2009 recommended switching to a sales tax. Critics have said the half-cent tax TARTA proposed in 2010 would hurt area businesses and that the agency failed to show it would wisely utilize the extra revenue. For the full story, click here.
