TEXOMA, Texas — Issues for the Texoma Area Paratransit System (TAPS) continue, with an audit by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) finding that the agency should reimburse the state for $930,619 as well as an additional $800,078 in noncompliant transactions that TAPS may be required to repay to the state, The Dallas Morning News reported.

The audit found TAPS had not submitted sufficient documentation for its requests for reimbursement, did not have processes in place to ensure compliance with TxDOT agreements and that its cost allocation methods were not sufficiently supported.

Earlier this month, the agency had to lay off 59 employees after losing an important state contract. The state said the decision to terminate was made after they concluded TAPS failed to pay their subcontractors, employees, and maintain their financial integrity as called for in the contract.
