Ridership on the Bourbonnais, Ill.-based River Valley Metro finished its 2010 fiscal year on June 30 with record ridership of 736,154 — an increase of 16.2 percent over last year and an increase over the first year ridership in 1999-2000 of only 77,128.

The growing ridership trend continued into fiscal 2011, with July being the second highest ridership month on record with 71,825 riders, according to the agency.

"The ridership numbers verify that River Valley Metro is on the right track," Marketing Director Michelle Brutlag said. "With our numerous national awards and ridership that has doubled over the past four years, River Valley Metro is meeting our mission of being the public service leader for today and tomorrow."
