AUGUSTA, Ga. — Due to budget problems, the Augusta Commission decided to privatize management of Augusta Public Transit, the city bus system, The Augusta Chronicle reported. While they will no longer be city employees, about 70 bus drivers, mechanics and other staffers will be retained at existing wages when Mobility Transit LLC takes over management of the bus service.

Some commissioners voted against the decision, saying that all other options have not yet been exhausted and pointed to another local bus system that did not thrive when switched to private management. For the full story, click here.
