Effective July 1, 2013, Columbus County Transportation in Whiteville, N. C. reached a three-year contract agreement with First Transit for paratransit, fixed route or dial-a-ride services.

One of Columbus County’s newest and most unique routes carries local veterans to and from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville and the Wilmington VA Clinic.

First Transit, which has served the community since 2007, manages the daily operations of Columbus County Transportation, maintains its fleet of 17 vehicles and employs the staff, which includes 16 drivers. The drivers have special training to work with children, geriatric and disabled citizens.
