Palm Tran of Palm Beach, Fla. partnered with Susan G. Komen South Florida and Lamar Transit Advertising to unveil its 2018 “Shades of Pink” bus. The ceremonial debut was held in Downtown West Palm Beach, Fla.

The "Shades of Pink" bus was designed to raise awareness and end racial disparities in breast cancer treatment. It is part of Susan G. Komen South Florida's campaign to bring awareness and life-saving programs to fight the disparities in breast cancer outcomes in the African-American community.

The design showcases nine local African American breast-cancer survivors, many of which were present at the unveiling, whose portraits were shot by photographer Michiko Kurisu.

Other attendees at the event included Assistant County Administrator Nancy Bolton, Palm Tran Executive Director Clinton B. Forbes, and Komen South Florida's Executive Director Kate Watts.

“Armed with $27 million in funding, Komen is targeting 10 American cities where the disparities are greatest to reduce the disparities between African American and white women by 25 percent in five years,” Watts said.

The bus will be used primarily on Route 1, which travels on US1 from the Palm Beach Gardens Mall to Camino Real in Boca Raton through April.

“Our mission and hope is that many women, by seeing this bus wrap, will get checked or decide to educate and advocate for the cause,” Forbes said.

In addition to the service on Palm Tran routes, the bus will also be staged at the Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure in Downtown West Palm Beach on Saturday, January 27, 2018.

This is the sixth year Palm Tran has produced a bus with a special design for the organization.
