Nashville MTA, RTA fill GM posts

Lora Baulsir, who most recently served as director of customer care for the MTA and chief administrative officer for the RTA, now serves as the full-time GM of the RTA, while Bob Baulsir, who previously served as COO, now serves as GM, administration, for MTA and RTA.

Indiana U. students vote to create 'Sustainability Fund'

Students can choose to donate to the fund when course registration opens on April 4, 2011, and the option to donate will be available every subsequent registration period. Potential projects might include enhancing transportation infrastructure, extending recycling coverage, purchasing motion-sensor lighting and installing solar panels.

Wash. transit unveils new double-decker buses

The 23 buses, dubbed the “Double Talls,” are replacing 60-foot articulated buses that were manufactured in 1998 and are beyond their federal replacement schedule. The vehicles will seat more passengers than the buses they are replacing, require less maintenance and less fuel than the buses they are replacing.

Sound Transit revamps website, adds rider tools

The new website features an improved trip planner with interactive maps that provide more information about transit connections and the locations of stations, stops and parking. A “New Rider Guide" link provides easy access to basic information about Sound Transit services.

APTA: House budget proposal would cut jobs, transit options

President William Millar told the House of Representatives that transit reductions of 30 percent or more outlined in the FY 2012 budget proposal by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) would halt thousands projects needed in the years ahead. He added that while transportation programs account for less than 3 percent of the federal budget, they support or create more than 2.5 million jobs annually.

U.S. DOT issues ITS video challenge

The new national competition will showcase innovative ways that local communities use smart transportation technology to improve safety, mobility and the environment. Submissions are being sought through June 30 from state and local governments, transit agencies, private firms and students.
