The new trains will run on Germany’s Main-Weser subnetwork operating between Frankfurt, Giessen, Marburg and Kassel and will support the planned timetable change on 15 December 2024.
The series of tests is being performed at night at up to about 87 miles per hour without passengers.
Two Coradia iLint prototypes will enter pilot operation in the Elbe-Weser network, with passenger service scheduled for late summer.
All the Coradia Lint DMUs will be manufactured in Salzgitter, Germany, at Alstom’s biggest production site, worldwide.
The delivery is part of an order worth about $198 million.
The diesel multiple units will be built in Alstom’s plant in Salzgitter and delivered by May 2019 to run on the RE Ulm-Aalen, RB Ulm-Langnau, and RB Ulm-Munderkingen lines.
The four-week test runs currently undergoing in Salzgitter aim at confirming the stability of the energy supply system based on coordinated interaction between the drive, the fuel cell, and the battery of the vehicle.
