N.Y. state grant enabling free paratransit service

The New Freedom Program grant from the New York State Department of Transportation will enable Community Action of Orleans and Genesee County to offer free transportation to people with disabilities and elderly residents of Genesee County with proper medical documentation.

RIPTA to offer wheelchair-accessible taxis

The new taxis are Dodge Caravan mini-vans that have been specially modified by Viewpoint Mobility to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters in the rear compartment. The taxis cost $36,744.00 each and were funded in part by over $380,000 in New Freedom grants.
