Moovit, which was named Google’s top local app in 2016, mixes available public data, including transit timetables and live information, with crowdsourced data from its more than 70 million users and 180,000 local volunteers.
The new train location tracking system, available at Amtrak.com, provides near real-time train status of more than 300 daily trains, estimates of arrival times and station information — all in the context of the Amtrak national system map.
Commuters are able to send a text to a short code and receive the latest information on when the next bus will depart or possible delays incurred along certain routes.
MTA Bus Time will enable bus riders to use smart phones, text messaging or their Web browser to learn how far the next bus is from their stop, saving them time and making bus travel easier. Users also can scan QR codes on bus stop signs to learn instantly when the next bus will arrive.
Other web tools in the works include real-time arrival information for the agency's Regional Rail system and providing customer updates on Twitter.
When the Next Bus system becomes available, Metrobus customers will be able to get real-time bus arrival information on Metro’s Website, by telephone or from electronic signs installed at select Metrobus stops.
Enhancements will include real-time travel information, faster ticketing and improved PA announcements.
