The ameriTRAM prototype is manufactured by Kinkisharyo, the maker of DART's light rail vehicles. The ameriTRAM is electric and is powered by either overhead catenary, like DART Rail, or on-board lithium-ion batteries.

The agency is working with project sponsors and jurisdictional partners to find easy and cost effective ways to integrate the various light rail systems planned for the region. The $250,000 regional study will be paid for by the jurisdictions that fund Metro.

Kinkisharyo unveils hybrid streetcar in N.C.

Debuted a prototype of the ameriTRAM, a 100 percent low-floor streetcar in Charlotte on Thursday. Uses e-Brid, a propulsion technology that enables operation powered by overhead catenary or on-board lithium-ion batteries. The technology is purported to save millions of dollars in operational costs.

Tempe streetcar receives regional approval

In addition to streetcar, a study calls for a BRT line on Rural Road, connecting the cities of Tempe and Chandler. Streetcar will advance first as local funding is available from Proposition 400, a countywide, half-cent transportation sales tax renewed by voters in 2004.

Kinkisharyo to debut hybrid streetcar in N.C.

The 100 percent low-floor, dual-powered LFX-300 will be unveiled in Charlotte, N.C. in January, 2011. The vehicle will also debut in other U.S. cities in the coming months.

Toronto Transit added to Google trip planner

The TTC also announced that real-time data for next streetcar arrival information is available, free, to anyone wishing to make use of the data for custom applications. Real-time data for all bus routes will be available in 2011.
