[Video] Houston Metro Purple Line Launch

On May 23, 2015, Houston METRO joined the list of cities with top-notch transit systems with the opening of the Purple Line. Concurrent with the Purple Line, Houston METRO also opened the 3.3-mile Green Line. Combined with the Red Line extension that opened in December 2013, the three new lines will triple Houston's light-rail’s footprint.

Texas bill would end use of federal funds for rail projects

If approved by lawmakers during the legislative session and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott, the bill would choke off state and local government access to federal transit funding for rail projects in the state, with the cities of Austin, Dallas and Houston all planning to expand their respective systems.
