Connex, in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation, will install the first global positioning system (GPS) used by Commuter Express buses in the Los Angeles area, after having completed successful test runs in April. The GPS system, manufactured by Navtrak Inc., allows dispatchers to know exactly where a bus is in real time, enhancing safety by monitoring bus speed and location. The system will also help improve on-time performance by giving dispatchers accurate trip information. Connex is installing the GPS on its fleet of 111 Commuter Express buses.
