The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system has been voted the best transit system in the United States among agencies that provide more than 30 million trips annually, according to the American Public Transit Association (APTA).
The award, which will be presented at APTA’s annual conference in Atlanta this October, is given yearly to recognize excellence in public transit agencies of varying size.
Other size categories include fewer than 1 million trips annually, between 1 million and 4 million annually and between 4 million and 30 million annual trips.
BART officials credited the system’s 10-year, $1.2 billion system renovation that included last year’s San Francisco International Airport extension.
This is the first time BART has been recognized with the award.
