Amtrak officials took congressional staffers and others on a tour of rail bridges in Connecticut this week to demonstrate that federal money is needed to replace deteriorating structures.

Amtrak is seeking $352 million for public works projects next year, which include the replacement of several bridges, as well as repairs on tunnels, catenaries and signals.

Company officials have said that the railroad can no longer put off these repairs, and the bridges must be replaced.
