Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Transit Police has acquired three new dogs for its explosive detection unit.

The K-9 dogs will conduct routine security sweeps of WMATA property and respond to specific incidents, reported the Associated Press.

WMATA officials said the agency acquired the bomb dogs as part of its ongoing efforts to improve safety and security throughout the system.

The dogs will start work once their training is completed.
