Commuters in Kansas City, Mo., will benefit from a $2 million federal grant that will fund ongoing construction of the MAX bus rapid transit (BRT) system, as well as replacement buses for the city’s dial-a-ride service.
About $1.4 million of the grant will go toward funding the 9.5-mile long MAX project, said Federal Transit Administrator Jenna Dorn.
The remaining $630,000 will go toward the purchase of 25 replacement buses for MetroFlex, a paratransit program that serves smaller neighborhoods.
MAX will connect key employment centers in Kansas City’s central business corridor. It is scheduled to open in July 2005.
