SMART to explore options for fate of rare tree

PETALUMA, Calif. — Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) officials have promised to hold off on cutting down a rare chimera redwood tree in Cotati until they can explore other options, The Press Democrat reported.

Activists speaking at a board meeting Wednesday, urged officials to save the tree or consider allowing it to be transplanted so it can be studied and enjoyed, according to the report. For the full story, click here.
