The Board of Directors of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) named Tom Maguire as the agency’s interim director of transportation, replacing Ed Reiskin who leaves the agency next month. He will hold the interim position starting August 14 and serve in the role until a new director of transportation is appointed.

Maguire currently serves as the SFMTA’s director of the Sustainable Streets Division, where he has spearheaded the agency’s Vision Zero efforts to reengineer the city’s streets to end traffic fatalities. He oversees staff which operates, engineers, designs, and plans the city’s traffic, parking, pedestrian, and bicycle infrastructure and provides transit security and parking enforcement.

Maguire joined the SFMTA in October 2014 after serving as assistant commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation. In this capacity, he managed bus rapid transit, sustainability, and resiliency programs among many others.
