NJ TRANSIT raising bus, rail fares by 9%

NJ TRANSIT officials have said the increases, which were proposed in April, are needed to close a $60 million budget gap that remained even after the agency recently cut $40 million. The increases are the first since 2010 when fares increased an average of 22%.

These findings are part of the Chaddick Institute’s Technology in Travel study, which includes more than 35,000 unique passenger observations since 2009. Passengers are counted once on a given trip. Each year, passengers are observed by trained data collectors to determine how they spend their time while traveling.

The Gold Line streetcar runs from Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center up to the Charlotte Transportation Center through the heart of center city connecting you to CATS bus service, the LYNX Blue Line and small business districts.
