Since Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. became CEO in 2012, the organization has solidified its reputation as a leader in the transportation industry. Under Ford’s leadership, the management structure was reorganized and JTA launched major initiatives to take public transportation to the next level.
The resolution passed at the MTA’s board meeting Wednesday, prompted indignation from members of the board and the public who accused the agency of blocking New Yorkers’ first amendment rights.

One of the proposed federal bills, H.R. 1846, would index the gas tax to inflation and create a bi-partisan, bi-cameral transportation commission that would provide long-term funding of the Highway Trust Fund. Another proposed bill, H.R. 680, would increase the gas tax by five cents per year for three years.
The savings are based on the cost of commuting by public transportation compared to the cost of owning and driving a vehicle, which includes the April 27, 2015 average national gas price of $2.54 per gallon, and the national unreserved monthly parking rate numbers.
The company's new headquarters office contains approximately 60,000 square feet of office space pursuant to a 12-year lease with Brandywine Realty Trust. The new office space was designed by architecture and interior design firm L2Partridge and built by INTECH Construction.
Key findings of the report found that nearly two-thirds of BART's railcar fleet will be at least 25 years old by fiscal year 2016-17, with the majority being 40 years old, and the agency faces cash-flow challenges for projects, with its total capital needs projected to cost more than $9.6 billion between fiscal years 2014-15 and 2023-24.
Since 2012, the NEPA Freethought Society has tried unsuccessfully to run various ads on COLTS buses. The rejected ads say “atheists” along with the group’s name and/or website.

New York City's Second Avenue Subway will be the first major expansion of the subway system in over 50 years. When fully completed, the line will stretch 8.5 miles along the length of Manhattan's East Side, from 125th Street in Harlem to Hanover Square in Lower Manhattan. In addition, a track connection to the existing 63rd Street and Broadway Lines will allow a second subway line to provide direct service from East Harlem and the Upper East Side to West Midtown via the Broadway express tracks.
A fully implemented Transmission Based Train Control system would have prevented this accident by applying the train’s brakes and stopping the train before the train passed the red stop signal, according to the NTSB report.
The mid-life refurbishing program included 3.7 million items replaced on the fleet, which represents about 35,000 components per train.
The escalating costs for the 16-mile line from Minneapolis to Eden Prairie provoked Gov. Mark Dayton to express “serious questions about its viability and affordability,” while Metropolitan Council Chair Adam Duininck did not rule out the possibility that the project could be scuttled.

Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams had encouraged eclipse viewers to take mass transit to their destinations for safety and congestion relief.
