Impact Recovery Systems Inc. modified an existing traffic control product, its Tuff Curb traffic separator, dramatically, by reducing the profile height to less than an inch, and incorporating special fire-retardant materials, stringent UV inhibitors to produce weatherability of the system, custom coloring and stainless steel hardware. The resulting product - the Sentry Between Car Barrier - is a curbing that is 36 inches in length, utilizing 26-inch uprights that contain a reactive spring device tensioned low enough that in the event of errant docking activities, a rider in a wheelchair would be able to traverse the curb/uprights and not be trapped in the railcar.
