CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is partnering with a local company, Passport, to develop an app to buy tickets for its Lynx Blue Line light rail system, The Charlotte Observer reports.

The transit system said light rail passengers often want to buy a ticket, but they can’t because there can be lines to use the ticket vending machines at stations. Riding the Lynx without a ticket carries a $50 fine, but enforcement can be spotty.

CATS plans to begin testing the app in the spring, and hopes it will make it easier for it to partner with rideshare companies like Uber on so-called “first mile/last mile” trips. For the full story, click here.
