Driver in Texas crash may have blacked out

Posted on April 23, 2013

IRVING, Texas — The driver of a charter bus that veered off the roadway and into a concrete barrier, leaving three people dead, told an accident investigator that he “possibly could have blacked out” before losing control of the wheel, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The April crash was caused when the driver, Loyd Rieve, failed to stay in his lane, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety report, which also disputed earlier accounts that the bus flipped over because of a blown tire or some other mechanical malfunction.
