ORLAND, Calif. — An explosive crash left 10 dead in Northern California when a FedEx tractor-trailer crossed over a grassy median on I-5 and slammed into a motorcoach carrying more than 40 high school students and their chaperones.

The coach was one of two the admissions office at Humboldt State University chartered to bring prospective students from Southern California to tour the Arcata campus. The drivers of both the FedEx truck and the motorcoach were among the dead, as well as three adult chaperones and five teenage students.
