The United Motorcoach Association (UMA) announced Lancer Insurance Co. will help sponsor the 2018 UMA International Driver Competition in San Antonio on Jan. 8, during the UMA Motorcoach EXPO, which runs Jan. 6 to 10 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

“We are delighted Lancer could step in and help us out,” said Ken Presley, UMA's VP, legislative and regulatory affairs, industry relations, and COO. “We were running short because the competition attracted more drivers this year than last, so Lancer really came through at a critical time. Our sponsorships are crucial to continuing this very special event.”

Some of the best drivers on the continent will compete to be the Grand Champion and win $2,500 in prize money along with bragging rights. Drivers submit to a written exam to test their knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and compete behind the wheel on a challenging skills course.

Along with Lancer Insurance, Prevost, Shriver-Capacity Insurance, and On Your Mark Transportation Consultants round-out the sponsors for this year’s competition.

“We began the driver competition to highlight the motorcoach driver profession and recognize the skilled and safe transportation they bring to millions of passengers every day,” said Presley.
